Emotional Intelligence - 20 Things to Get More Healthy

So many things can go wrong in our lives, but one of the most important aspects is to take care of your emotional health. Achieving this goal will help you be more productive and successful in all other areas of your life. This blog post will show you 20 ways to improve your emotional intelligence.

People with high emotional intelligence usually top their professions in sales or management. However, only those with average IQs can ignore the importance of emotional health. If you don’t develop your emotional quotient (EQ), it could lead to depression, anxiety disorders, and even suicide. It can also affect your relationships with other people.

The good news is that if you want to improve your emotional intelligence, you can. Here are some ways you can do it:

  1. Keep yourself occupied. When you’re bored out of your wits, there’s a tendency for negative thoughts to pop up in your mind, which only worsens your emotional health. So if you want to improve your emotional quotient (EQ), you need to keep busy, even if only with the most menial tasks.
  2. Find a quiet place where you can reflect on yourself and your actions for five minutes daily. Some people do this when they get home after work; others do it before they retire for the night. This way, you won’t be too tired to think about yourself and what you can do to improve your emotional health.
  3. Exercise is another surefire way of improving your emotional well-being, as it releases endorphins that make you feel good about yourself. But, of course, you don’t need to go to the gym every day. Even a pleasant walk in the park will do.
  4. Avoid drinking and drugging. Whether depressed or anxious, alcohol and drugs may seem like a cure for your emotional problems, but they usually worsen. So instead of numbing yourself with any substance that can harm your body, focus on improving your emotional health.

  1. Join a support group. If you have problems with people, then the best way to solve them is by meeting other people who are also struggling with the same issues you have. You may even find kindred souls in this way. Emotional catharsis isn’t just for shrinks anymore! Knowing that you aren’t the only one with these problems can help lessen their impact on your daily life.
  2. Be compassionate to yourself and others. It’s incredible how gracious we are when other people have a problem, but not so much for ourselves. It’s high time we develop strong compassion for ourselves and give ourselves a break once in a while.
  3. Practice meditation. Meditation has been scientifically proven to increase emotional intelligence, even boosting creativity and productivity at work! All you need is five minutes in the morning or night to relax and let your mind be free of all thoughts that fret you. Then, whenever your mind tries to wander, bring it back to your breath, and you’ll feel calmer.
  4. Make a list of all the things bothering you for years. Then think about whether these problems are worth worrying over. Chances are they’re not, but we get stuck in a rut, considering that these problems are the only things holding us back. But if you can’t do anything about it anyway, why worry?
  5. Make your home more comfortable. If you fill your room with clutter, that’s probably stressing you out even when you’re unaware. Consider all those papers on your desk, all those clothes you three on the floor. They may not bother you during the day, but at night when you’re trying to sleep, these things probably keep popping into your head!

  1. Don’t neglect self-esteem issues. We all have problems with self-esteem to some extent, and many of us are aware of them. However, we don’t always know how to deal with them. So instead of burying them deep inside, take the time to understand why you’re feeling this way and how you can improve your self-esteem.
  2. Don’t be too hard on yourself over minor issues. Whether you failed an exam or messed up at work, it’s easy to feel discouraged and criticize yourself. However, you don’t have to be a slave for life to your mistakes. So instead of beating up on yourself, forgive yourself and move on.
  3. Learn something new every day–even if it’s just one new fact! Also, this will help keep you interested in learning more about the world, which is good for your emotional and physical health. In addition, knowing more things can make you feel better about yourself.
  4. Spend time with the people who make you happy. It’s easy to be around negative or draining people because maybe they’re close friends or family members. You don’t want to hurt them by bugging them for no reason. But if these people bring you down, it would be better to distance yourself from them and spend your time with people who make you feel good.
  5. Follow your passions! Of course, we all have responsibilities that we need to tend to daily, but let’s not forget about our dreams and desires. Instead, spend some time every day following the things you enjoy doing. If it’s learning a language or playing an instrument, jump at the chance to do it!
Healthy Choices
  1. Go outside every day and feel the sun on your skin. It doesn’t matter whether it’s wintertime in Antarctica or summer in Death Valley–getting out there and getting some sun is always good for you. The sun boosts your vitamin D levels, keeping depression and anxiety at bay!
  2. Constantly ask yourself whether how you’re thinking or feeling is true or not. For example, you may feel sad because of a past mistake, but if you remind yourself that it’s all in the past, that will help you feel better, knowing that it won’t happen again.
  3. Change your perspective. We all have moments where we’re feeling down and like nothing is going our way, but instead of focusing on all those negative emotions and thoughts, find a different perspective and see what happens!
  4. Spend some time writing in a journal about your feeling every day. Don’t worry too much about how it looks, and don’t edit yourself! Instead, just let all your thoughts come out on the paper. Thus this will help you relax and feel clear-headed again.
  5. Have an exceptional meal with your family or friends at least once a week. Also, this will help you feel better about yourself because it shows that you can care for yourself and others.
  6. Make time for things that interest you! For example, if you love art or science, try to take some classes related to these things. Not only will the material be interesting, but you’ll want to study more on your own time on the side, which is good for both your brain and your mental health.
